A photo of the Mirza Ali Jaon ka Takht Baoli stepwell at Narnaul, Rajasthan.

Hard to find, neglected and overgrown, this 16th century baoli was within walking distance of the Nagpuria Baoli.

Unusually constructed from small bricks, once beautiful, set among other water features and channels that run through some old Muslim tombs, it’s an elegant Moghul building with an adjacent octagonal pool.

The Takht in the name refers to the pavilion above the entrance. Something about the colour of the faded grandeur evokes a more southern European style.

Now dry, it seems to be a place for the local youth to hang out.
