This old well in Machari village near Rajgarh is a circular well shaft with steps descending on the inside the open well and more steps descending through the wall of the well - hair raising!

It is being restored; the interior is a maze of bamboo scaffholding. This is the view when you walk through a white washed arched corridor atop a small hillock and look down into the interior - you really feel like you've entered another world. 

Rough steps spiral down; it's too dark to see the bottom. The lower steps have fallen away; halfway down a man watches a young girl mixing cement - they are rebuilding the steps.

Outside, a line of camels emerge from the thin cluster of trees.
