Square Photo of Flooded Raniji Stepwell, Bundi
A square format photo of the Raniji ki Baori stepwell at Bundi, full of water in October 2022.
The Raniji ki Baori or Queen's Stepwell is one of the most beautiful stepwells in Rajasthan. You can see another photo here taken in the springtime when the well was almost dry.
The area around Bundi is hilly and heavily forested and when we visited in October 22 after unseasonal rain the well was almost full of water. Local people said the water level had been even higher and that they expected it would take until April to drain away.
So on this occasion we couldn't see all the lower architecture but the water was clean and a beautiful aqua colour - and it demonstrated how the stepwells work - when the ground water is higher you have fewer steps to descend to water.
I am very grateful to Matthew Conduit for the creation of this square format image.
