Vajrasattva Statue and Stupa, Lamayuru, Ladakh
Statue of Vajrasattva, Lamayuru, Ladakh
I'm assuming that this beautiful statue is Vajrasattva, even though there is no vajra in the left hand next to the heart, maybe it has been lost. Rupee notes have been placed in the open hand. There is a vajra bell in the left hand, typical of Vajrasattva, as is the crown.
The beautiful small room at Lamayuru room contains a row of stupas and is full of murals, Sakyamuni is seen on the left. Lamayuru is a large monastery in the Drikung Kagyu tradition situated on the road between Leh and Kargil in Ladakh.
Lamayuru is the largest monastery in the area and dates from around 1000CE; it currently houses about 140 monks.
