Sandstone & white marble Chattris on the edge of the stepped water tank at the City Palace, Alwar.

The Vinay Vilas Mahal or Royal Palace, now called, rather prosaically, the City Palace was built at the end of the 18th century facing this stepped water tank.

Not only could you bathe in the water, cool air from the water drifted through the open lattice windows of the Palace, which now houses local government offices. Bathing seems to be no longer permitted, the guardian patrols the tank chasing any adventurous young lads with a large lathi cane.

The large building, a mausoleum, at the far end of the lake is the Moosi Rani ki Chattri, named after Queen Rani Moosi, wife of Maharaja Bakhtawar Singh.
