Lohargal Stepwell, Square Format | Stepwell Photo
A square format photo of the seven-storey Chetan das ki Bawri stepwell at Lohargal in Shekawati.
This photo of the lower levels of the well has proved to be a popular image on our Instagram page silkroadgallerysheffield.
Not many people come to see this atmospheric stepwell at Lohargal, a small town on the edge of the Aravali hills in Rajasthan. Rajesh, the delightful owner of the Tourist Pension Guest House in nearby Nawalgarh guided us here. Rajesh's Tourist Pension is highly recommended if you're touring the Shekawati region of Rajasthan. He's a enthusiastic guide and his wife prepares wonderful food.
To find out more about stepwells, read our blog about The Forgotten Stepwells of Rajasthan. There are over 800 languages in India and various local terms are used for stepwells: bawri, baori, baoli, vav, kund.
The print is in a square format so the sizes are the paper, not the image, size.
