Mahila Baag Jhalra, Jodhpur | Stepwell Photos
A photo of the reflections in the water at the Mahila Baag Jhalra stepwell at Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
Built in the grounds of a garden and orchard by a concubine of an 18th century Maharaja, the elegant Mahila Baag Jhalra stepwell is hemmed in by other buildings which you can see in the reflections.
It's a pretty little well with chairs and pavilions in two of the corners. When I was there it was half full of water but earlier photos show it's true depth. Jodhpur has a sophisticated system of underground water tanks which keep the water fresh, tiny fish were easily spotted in the water.
The friendly caretaker calls himself the Maharaja of the Stepwell. Who's to argue!
