Panorama East of the Nigutse La | Photos of Ladakh
A panoramic photo east of the Nigutse La pass in Ladakh looking back at the dramatic landscape towards the pass.
This photo is taken looking back at our route through the enthralling landscape east of the 5200m Nigutse La.
It appears quite benign but two hours earlier we’d struggled through driving sleet and snow on steep scree leading up to the pass. The horses had gone ahead of us and churned up the path into nothing much better than a melting slag heap that stuck to our boots and we slipped back half a step with every step forward.
At the top of the pass we looked ahead into this exquisite mist capped landscape of multi-hued canyons and serrated pinnacles. Lower down during our descent we passed through a 100metre band of rock that was a deep glassy green.
Our horses can be seen grazing on the right.
Panorama format. The proportions are 44x100.
