Red Roses, Octagonal Stepwell | Stepwell Photos
Inside the Octagonal Stepwell, just outside the Elephant Gate at Fatepur Sikri, is a Muslim shrine with red roses.
It took some time to find the stepwells at Fatepur Sikri and we only found the Octagonal Stepwell with the help of a shepherd who was looking after his goat.
It's unlike any other stepwell. Only one of the four sets of descending steps is open; you descend to a gallery of arches that run around the central, dried up, well. Light comes in through a small central opening and perforated jail stone windows.
In one of the galleries is this Muslim shrine with red roses scattered on a green cloth.
