The late afternoon sun cast long shadows on sand dunes near Samye monastery in Tibet.
The late afternoon sun cast long shadows as we drove along the road from Tsetang to Samye in 2014. The road runs parallel to the slow, wide Yarlung Tsampo river. Small trees are being planted to attempt to stabilise the river shore.
Dark skies with scattered white clouds are typical of the high altitude of Tibet.
Twelve years earlier we'd crossed the river on barges but the sand banks have become too dangerous and now you can only get to Samye by road.
