Sufi Shrine, Octagonal Stepwell | Stepwell Photos

Inside the Octagonal Stepwell near the Elephant Gate at Fatepur Sikri is a red & green Muslim shrine.

When you descend the steps in this unusual stepwell located just outside the Elephant Gate at Fatepur Siri you come to a series of arches one of which opens onto a Sufi shrine. The green mat, paintwork and decorations stand out in wonderful contrast to the red colour of the sandstone arches.

Steps from here lead down to the central well which was without water when we were there in February.
