Nagaur is a small town on the northern road between Jaipur and Jodhpur in Rajasthan. The palace inside the old fort at Nagaur has been converted into a small, superb hotel.

The fort is unusual for several reasons: in having been built on a flat plain rather than on a hill top as is usually the case in Rajasthan;
in having a complete walled enclosure containing mostly empty space;
in having a stepwell built into the outer wall
and in having an ingenious water harvesting system of drainage channels & underground cisterns.
