Carved Wooden Protector Mask from Bhutan
A carved wooden Buddhist protector mask from Bhutan with bulging eyes and grimacing wide open mouth with exposed fang-like teeth.
In the middle of the forehead there is a representation of the third eye and there are five carved skulls above the forehead.
Fierce masks like these are used in ceremonies that celebrate the triumph of good over evil, the intentions for the future and the ritual slaying of past unskilful deeds.
