In this unusual Madhubhani painting a red-limbed bearded man with raised arms is carrying a container in which there is a reclining woman.
The woman also has her arms reaching up over her head. In the background behind the man are swirling curved shapes which could be connected visually with the five snake heads above the woman.
Madhubhani paintings are often also called Mithila paintings. Madhubhani is a district in the Mithila region of Bihar.
