Ura Monastery, Bumthang, Bhutan

The monastery is in the middle of the village of Ura in  the central region of Bhutan.

At the end of a trek in central Bumthang we spent the night at a farmhouse in the village of Ura. We arrived after dark and stumbled through the cluster of buildings until our guide found the right place, a chaotic farmhouse owned by two sisters but run my several men who did the cooking and washing. The family arrangements were beyond our comprehension. In the morning we had wonderful rice porridge with ginger, chilli and ground cheese.

In the morning we walked around the village and happened across the gompa which the caretaker had just opened. Like all the monasteries in Bhutan the interior had magnificent wall paintings and a huge statue of Padmasambhava. Alas, no photos allowed.
