Man with Lion Head Sculpture
An Indian sculpture of a man with a lion's head, standing holding a ball or piece of fruit, possibly presenting it to his mouth.
In this half man half lion sculpture he is wearing the simple robes and beads of a holy man. It may be Narasimha, the fourth avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu, but a man with a lion's head is a popular image in many cultures. It implies transcendental strength.
A beautifully carved statue, the detail on the lion head of this example of Indian wood carving is especially pleasing.
